Browser notifications aren't showing up
What to check when browser notifications are turned on but you're not seeing alerts — usually a setting outside the browser, not inside it.
Browser notifications depend on two things agreeing: this screen, and your computer’s own operating system. Turning the switch on here is only half of it — if either your browser or your computer is set to block notifications, nothing shows up, and neither side will tell you the other one said no. Work through these in order.
Check the status line first
Go to Profile → Notifications. Under Browser Notifications, the line under Notifications in this browser tells you what this browser already knows:
- Enabled on this browser. — this part is working. The problem is downstream; skip to It says Enabled, but nothing shows up.
- Off. Turn this on to receive alerts here. — you haven’t turned it on yet, or turned it off. See Turn on browser notifications.
- Blocked. Allow notifications for this site in your browser settings, then reload the page. — see Nothing happened when you clicked Enable below.
- Not supported in this browser. — switch to an up-to-date Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari.
Nothing happened when you clicked Enable
Chrome and Edge don’t always pop up a dialog box for a notification request — sometimes they just show a small bell or lock icon in the address bar and wait for you to click it. If you chose Enable browser notifications and nothing seemed to happen, look there before assuming it’s broken.
If you or someone else already dismissed that prompt with Block, the browser won’t ask again by itself. You have to undo it by hand, per site:
- Chrome: go to
chrome://settings/content/notifications, find this site under Not allowed to send notifications, and remove it (or switch it to Allow). - Edge: same idea at
edge://settings/content/notifications. - Firefox: address bar → the lock icon → Permissions → clear the Send Notifications setting.
- Safari: Safari menu → Settings → Websites tab → Notifications → find this site and change it from Deny to Allow (or remove it from the list).
Reload the page afterward and try Enable browser notifications again.
It says Enabled, but nothing shows up
This is almost always your computer’s own notification settings, not this screen. Your browser can have permission and still be told by the operating system to stay silent.
On a Mac: open System Settings → Notifications, find your browser in the list (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox), and check that it’s allowed and not set to None. While you’re there, make sure Focus or Do Not Disturb isn’t turned on — either one silences notifications from every app, this one included.
On Windows: open Settings → System → Notifications, confirm notifications are turned on system-wide, and check your browser isn’t in the list of apps excluded from sending them.
If both of those look right and you still see nothing, a privacy or ad-blocking browser extension may be the reason — some quietly stop the subscription step from completing without showing an error. A quick way to check: open the dashboard in an incognito or InPrivate window (extensions are off there by default) and try enabling notifications again. If it works there, an extension in your normal window is the cause.
On a phone
An iPhone or iPad can only get these through Safari, and only if the site has been added to the Home Screen first (Share → Add to Home Screen) — a plain Safari tab never receives them, with no error and no setting to fix. If you’re using a phone day to day, use the phone app instead — it has its own notifications and doesn’t depend on any of this.
Still stuck
Browser notifications are set per browser, not per account — if they work on one computer and not another, that’s expected; each one needs its own Enable, covered in Turn on browser notifications. If you’ve checked your browser’s site permission and your computer’s notification settings and it still doesn’t work, ask your manager — email alerts for new chats still work independently of any of this.
